I joined my husband to run our small business in 2023.
I wanted more flexibility in my life.
We do creative development and marketing for businesses.
Our annual salary decreased when I left corporate life.
I discovered thrifting by chance. I loved to roam thrift shops looking for fun t-shirts.
Then I noticed how much our family could benefit from shopping thrift.
Here are 5 reasons we thrift:
People donate good merchandise that is brand name, in good condition, all the time.
Every time you buy something “new” – you should wash it. It has chemicals, people’s DNA from marketing the garment or trying it on. No different than thrifting.
Thrift shopping helps you economically, environmentally and ethically. More on that later.
Many thrift shops, including Goodwill, employee people with disabilities. Are they perfect employers? Probably not. But how many people with disabilities does your employer pay?
You can save a ton of money if you do it right. My weekly (self-set) budget is $100.
And I can help you get started.
What we thrift:
Clothes (all ages, and even stuff that doesn’t fit our family but is New With Tags (NWT).
Home decor
Decor for events (birthday and grad parties)
Art supplies
Gifts
Purses and bags
Costumes
Tip: Everything you buy must find a home within your home, be resold/consigned or donated within a week. This helps us from acquiring too much stuff.
